Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

There is more to Miley Cyrus than controversy.

Now, we all know Miley Cyrus can never avoid controversy whenever she is in the public eye. However, it may come as a shock to some people but Miley is someone who does not care what others think. Many people may disagree with me here but I think that she is one of the most inspirational and influential celebrities around.

Behind the Wrecking Balls, the nudity, and the entire idea of sticking out tongues which some people do not agree with, causing them to automatically sigh to anything she does and then they build a judgement upon Miley. I think that many people may not have watched the 2014 VMAs but Miley does so much for communities all over the world. We will acknowledge her past of cultural appropriation, which I do not agree with. I do agree with supporting this foundation that is important to LGBTQ youth. 20% of LGBTQ are homeless, so this foundation is much needed.

Miley has her own organisation called The Happy Hippie Foundation. The Happy Hippie Foundation holds a ‘mission which is to rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBTQ youth and other vulnerable populations’.

At the 2014 VMA’s Miley sent a young man Jesse on stage to accept an MTV award on her behalf. He accepted Miley’s Moon Man in honor of “the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now” and pointed viewers to Miley’s Facebook to donate money to My Friend’s Place, the Los Angeles organization that had introduced Miley to Jesse.. Following on from this announcement the duo managed to raise more than $200,000 in 24 hours.

Ever since then Miley has used her Facebook as a way to get people to donate, as she published a series of exclusive “Backyard Sessions” shot at her own house, including performances with Melanie Sefka, Laura Jane Grace, Joan Jett and Ariana Grande. Below each of the videos there is a “donate” button that enables fans to make a direct donation to The Happy Hippie Foundation.

On her Facebook, Miley has also explained “I started The Happy Hippie Foundation to share a message of acceptance, especially of people who are different than you. After the Orlando shooting, this is more true than ever. We stand by EVERYONE in the LGBTQ community, and that’s why teaming up with LGBTQ Muslim leaders to develop programs that will support LGBTQ Muslim youth and promote understanding around gender, sexuality and religion. These are TOUGH issues during a tragic time, but by supporting each other we can continue to spread acceptance, hope and unity #‎LoveisLove‬ ‪#‎QueerMuslimsExist ‬‪#‎OrlandoStrong‬ ‪#‎OneOrlando‬

Miley and everyone who’s involved in Happy Hippie foundation are doing what is right, standing by youth and people of any age to spread their voices, be who they are and to not be afraid. There is more to Miley Cyrus than controversy; there is a caring and captivating woman.
